I’m a big believer that party favors should be useful or edible. The silver engraved trinkets are lovely but most guests will not want to hold on to those and it will turn out to be money down the drain. These DIY Essential Oil Bath Salts are a really great baby shower favor idea. Not only are you sending the guests home with something to thank them for attending, but you are also encouraging them to take a few minutes and relax.
You can find bath salts at just about any store. Some come with scents or oils already mixed in, or you can buy sea salt and Epsom salts to mix and mix them with essential oils yourself. All you need to do is set up a little area in the party space for the guests to customize their bath salts.
I used empty baby food jars for the guests to put their bath salt in. Depending on how many guests you have the party, you may want to put out a few bowls of salts so multiple guests can prepare their favor at once.
Once the salts are in the jar, have each guest add their oils. You can do a little research ahead of time and put out a sign with what each essential oil helps with or you can let guests choose them based on the way they smell. NOTE! Essential oils can be really potent. You do not want to use peppermint or other mint in a bath salt recipe as certain body parts are tender and might get irritated with those oils. Stick to gentle oils, like orange, lavender, ylang ylang, etc. For this size jar, I would start with about 6 drops of oil. Once the salts and oils are in the jar, instruct your guests to add the lid and shake well to try to distribute the oils throughout.
Provide tags, pens and string so each guest can create labels of the oils they used in their bath salt mix and their name.
Send each guest off with a big hug and their DIY bath salt favor. Hopefully they’ll take time to use them and relax for a few minutes. That is a favor that keeps on giving!
