Craft stores make throwing a party really easy these days! If you just use a little imagination, you can take simple craft supplies and turn them in to double duty for your next baby shower. These super-simple chalkboard place cards can also be sent home as a favor by adding a small magnet to the back. They are inexpensive and look really nice among the rest of your table décor.
All of the supplies can be found at your local craft store (be sure to check their website for a coupon before you go as you can often save 40% off an item or more!). The pre-cut wood pieces come in all different shapes, so you can find something that fits your theme perfectly, or you can keep it simple with a classic oval. I find the chalkboard that comes in a spray paint can is the easiest to use. You don’t need a brush, which means you don’t have to worry about brush strokes or keeping the paint smooth. The chalk comes in all different colors for more party décor customization. And the magnets come with adhesive on one side making them ridiculously easy to use.
Simply spray one side of the wood shapes. Let dry and apply another coat. Once dried completely, flip them over and add one to two magnets on the backside.
If you are sending them home with your guests and you want them to be able to write their own messages on the magnet, be sure to prime the paint first. That means you take the side of a piece of chalk and drag it over the whole front side leaving a light layer of chalk. Wipe it off, and it’s ready to go. If you don’t prime chalkboard paint first, whatever words you use, or names, do not fully come off when you try to wipe it away.
The place cards will not only show your guests where they are sitting but also be a nice reminder of the baby shower they just attended when they see it on their refrigerator at home.
